Level UP! Orchestra
For players of violin, viola, cello, and bass who have completed Level 1. The first year of an instrument can be a lot to learn. This class includes review of the more difficult concepts such as slurring, F and C natural, and quick rhythms. You’ll feel really prepared to take on Level 2 in the fall! You will also learn how to play as a real orchestra– violins, violas, cellos and basses each have their own part and learn to play together in harmony. The six week session will change pieces halfway through so it will be possible to join in August. Instructor: Denver Speelman.
Summer Orchestra
For players of all instruments who have completed Level 2 and up. We select multi-level pieces so there are 2-3 different levels of difficulty available for each instrument. Each player will get music that is at their level so it can be both fun and challenging. The six week session will change pieces halfway through so it will be possible to join in August. Instructor: Denver Speelman.
National Anthem & Baseball Game!
We have been selected to play the Star-Spangled Banner again this year for a Corvallis Knights baseball game! For players who have completed Level 1 on any instrument. Music is available in advance. The package includes free game tickets for the player and their family and a coupon for concessions. Students will help with selling raffle tickets during the first part of the game. Four classes the week before the performance. Instructors: Isaac Andrew and Denver Speelman. FREE thanks to The Bark Place!!!
Cello-Rama! CELLOS ONLY
For all cellos who have completed Level 1 or higher. Multi-level cello ensemble with parts to challenge any level of player. Intense one-week class that will get you fired up about cello! Instructor: Isaac Andrew.
Encanto! Music
For violins, violas, and cellos with at least one year of experience; the class will use a multi-level format to challenge more advanced players. Learn to play the music you love from Encanto! One week, four sessions. Instructor: Julie Ritchey.
Video Game Music
Some of the best music being written today is heard in video games. For violin, viola, cello, and bass with two or more years experience (completed Level 2) due to the more challenging rhythms and keys. Instructor: Denver Speelman.
Learn Viola
For players who have had at least one year of violin, even if they play another instrument currently. Viola is the heart of an orchestra, the instrument between violin and cello. Played like a violin, viola reads a different clef in music and has a lower range and different strings. It is a great skill for any violin player (and a beautiful instrument in its own right!) and can be learned quickly. We recommend also taking Level UP or Summer Orchestra at the same time to get more experience with the instrument. Viola included. Twice a week for four weeks (no July 4). Instructor: Denver Speelman.
Learn Upright Bass
For students 5th grade and up who have completed at least a year of classes in AYO or school band. Bass is a huge part of nearly every ensemble and a great solo instrument, too! We recommend also taking Level UP! or Summer Orchestra to get more experience playing the instrument in an ensemble. Bass included, class size limited. Twice a week for four weeks. Instructor: Allen Regnier.
For any student who would like to work with a teacher in a quiet, one-on-one setting. Our instructors provide one-on-one lessons in violin, viola, and cello throughout the summer, and on ukulele, guitar, upright bass, electric bass, and keyboard during more limited dates. One-on-one lessons are the best way to advance quickly on an instrument. Lessons are 25 minutes long. We recommend weekly lessons for most players.
All lessons are at AYO Music Studios, 1405 Pacific Blvd.
