No audition will be required beginning in 2021
To be accepted into the Junior Orchestra, a student should have skills comparable to the end of Level 2. You need to know all the notes on your instrument in 1st position and play in a variety of rhythms. You will need to be able to read music on a page and understand it. You do NOT need to be able to play fast!! The old audition sheets below illustrate the level of skill needed. If you can understand the music and work through playing it slowly, you should be ready for Junior Orchestra.
This information and music will be updated as we get closer to the start of classes.
Auditions will take place in late September for ALL players.
An audition (playing test) of music provided by the conductor is required for all players, both new and returning. This ensures that students are seated correctly in the ensemble according to their latest playing skills. To be accepted, students must demonstrate fluency on their instrument in positions other than 1st position, play a variety of bow strokes, and show attention to musical phrasing, dynamics, and tone quality. The skills taught in Level 3 are expected for Chamber Orchestra musicians.
The audition requirements are currently being revised for 2021-2022 and will be posted in August.
